2026 Updated  Support Policy For New Wireless Presentation Devices

Due to recent changes in manufacturer hardware and licensing models, our department will provide support for wireless presentation devices for up to five (5) years from the date of purchase for University departments.

Key Factors Driving This Support Model:

  • The new hardware (Kramer VIA Go3) is not compatible with our legacy on-premises, perpetually licensed VSM (VIA Site Management) server.
  • The manufacturer now requires a VSM Cloud license for the Go3 device to access essential management features such as:
    • Firmware updates
    • SSL certificate deployment
    • Standardized device configuration profiles
  • The maximum license term offered for VSM Cloud is 5 years, and it must be purchased at the time of hardware acquisition.
  • A 2-year extended warranty is required for a device to be on our central management server, bringing the total warranty coverage to 5 years, aligning with the expected support lifecycle.

Lifecycle Expectation:
Given the license-based nature of the new model, wireless presentation devices should now be treated like other software-dependent hardware (e.g., computers). Departments should plan for a 5-year replacement cycle aligned with the license term and hardware warranty.
